COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The CenterPoint Energy Foundation has partnered with Community One to launch the Home Repair & Care program to help eligible homeowners in southwestern Indiana complete repairs and energy upgrades — the initiative is backed by a $5 million Community Energy Improvement Fund.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wild Eggs, a popular breakfast, brunch and lunch chain, will open its first Evansville location Thursday, Feb. 12 at 1223 Hirschland Road. The restaurant will serve made-to-order dishes and offer warm hospitality.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana's DNR is holding its historic photo contest through April 3, inviting everyone to submit up to three pictures of state sites that are at least 50 years old. Selected entries will be showcased on the DNR Instagram account in May for National Historic Preservation Month.  Courier & Press
  • In 1918, Main Street saw snow piles reach 8 ft high after 22 inches fell in three days, freezing the Ohio River and stopping streetcar service while locals dug tunnels to access downtown stores.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • U-Haul’s report showed that Indiana ranked 25th among 50 states for one-way truck moves in 2025—a drop from last year’s 8th-place ranking. The report noted that 50.1% of rental traffic arrived in Indiana while 49.9% left.  Courier & Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • EVSC will begin auditing all 40 schools by the end of January or early February to boost safety for students and staff. National School Safety and Security Services — reviewing transportation, building design, and surveillance — will interview and assess schools with a project funded by the operations budget approved in December.  44 News
  • USI is hosting its 2026 Homecoming Week from Saturday, Jan. 24 to Saturday, Jan. 31 with events including a Homecoming Day of Service, decorating contest, ball, and basketball games at Liberty Arena + a coronation ceremony will honor the Homecoming Court.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The sixth-annual Banterra Bank Warrior Showcase will take place this weekend at Harrison High School with 10 boys basketball games including matchups like Harrison vs. Arsenal Tech on Friday and Bosse vs. South Bend Riley on Saturday. Tickets cost ($7 one-day, $10 weekend).  Courier & Press
