  • Amid bitter cold, a recent update from the Commission on Homelessness shows that most local shelters have space available today. United Caring Services and Evansville Rescue Mission operate 24/7 to provide shelter, meals, and warmth for those in need.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Due to continuing snow, several school corporations have announced closures on Monday including EVSC, which will hold an asynchronous learning day.  14 News
  • USI students will offer free federal and state tax preparation through VITA at the Business and Engineering Center on Mondays from Feb. 2 to March 23 at sessions scheduled for 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Call 812-464-1718 to book an appointment.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CenterPoint has said it is no longer asking customers to conserve power after confirming stored energy meets local needs. The utility warns residents to watch for updates if conditions change amid the ongoing cold.  Courier & Press
  • Indiana State Police seek volunteer chaplains to offer support for troopers, retirees, and families with wellness services. Interested clergy (meeting education or experience requirements) may apply through NeoGov.  Courier & Press

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Evansville residents are sledding down the 12th fairway at Helfrich Hills Golf Course today, as a heavy snowfall of about 10 inches makes for safe fun + cold thrills. Reitz Hill also remains popular among local sled enthusiasts.  14 News

  • IHSAA released statewide girls basketball sectional pairings on Sunday, Jan. 25; sectional games begin Feb. 3. The draw includes local teams like Evansville Memorial and Evansville Central along with teams from across the state gearing up for the tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.  Courier & Press
