COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Vanderburgh Humane Society is selling Valentine’s Cuddlegrams that include roses, treats, a personalized card (with a 30-minute cuddle session with a puppy or kitten) and will be delivered Feb. 13. Sales close Feb. 10 and proceeds benefit the humane society with deliveries limited to Vanderburgh County and Newburgh.  Courier & Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two new art shows are on view at the University of Southern Indiana’s McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries. The show Revelation by Amanda Meuth (part of the Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship) is open until Feb. 9, and Reflection by Katherine Medina-Martinez looks at how faith appears in art.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility worked on Thursday morning to repair 15 water main breaks amid frigid, wet conditions, helping to restore service for about 63,000 customers. Motorists were urged to slow down & give repair crews plenty of space on slippery streets.  44 News
  • Following a weekend winter storm, trash collection in Evansville will resume on Monday — Republic Services will pick up trash in carts and extra bagged items as recycling follows its regular schedule next week.  Courier & Press
  • On Friday, Jan. 30, Evansville crews are still plowing secondary roads after a historic snowstorm hit the city on Saturday—focusing on primary routes while some neighborhood streets remain icy. Todd Robertson said crews have worked 12 to 18-hour shifts to address more than 700 removal requests.  Courier & Press
  • USPS reminds residents to clear snow and ice from mailboxes and walkways so letter carriers can deliver mail safely during the winter storm (curbside deliveries need extra space). The service alert was issued early and may delay mail today.  Courier & Press
  • On Thursday, Evansville firefighters took their required watermanship exam to test their ability to rescue people from unsafe ice. The exam used a 20-point system and staff remind residents to call 9-1-1 if someone falls through the ice—ensuring winter safety.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Evansville men’s basketball team will face Southern Illinois on March 1 at 3 p.m. at Ford Center—rescheduled after a January 25 winter storm—and the UE-Valparaiso game will now begin at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the same venue.  Courier & Press
