  • The Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department posted a public service message advising residents to leave immediately if they detect a burning smell, as it may signal an electrical fire — avoid using switches or appliances until firefighters declare it safe to return.  14 News
  • The Evansville Promise Neighborhood added 10 new partners today, increasing its network to 33 organizations that help children and families. The new partners bring expertise in healthcare, education and family support to boost programs in early childhood, school engagement and health.  Courier & Press

  • Holiday World is now hiring 2,000 seasonal workers for its 80th season and will hold an in-person job fair on Feb. 28 in Santa Claus. Phone interviews are set for March 7 and 28 while applicants can apply online now.  Courier & Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mt. Vernon Fire Department hosted CPR Days last Saturday, training 36 residents in life-saving skills and thanking partner agencies, instructors, volunteers + community members. The event aimed to boost emergency preparedness across Posey County.  44 News

  • On Feb. 7, the Reitz Lady Panthers beat the Castle Lady Knights 46-45 in the IHSAA Class 4A Girls Basketball sectional championship at Castle High School in Newburgh — the win came in a one-point game.  Courier & Press
  • The Courier + Press Orthopaedic Associates Athlete of the Week poll is open until 10 a.m. CT Friday to honor top high school performances from Feb.2-7 across Southwestern Indiana, featuring winners from wrestling, swimming, and basketball events.  Courier & Press
  • On Feb. 7, 2026, the IHSAA Wrestling Regionals held championship matches at Castle High School (Newburgh) with many schools competing in various weight classes, including key showdowns with teams like Mater Dei and Harrison.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville-area girls swimmers qualified for the IHSAA state finals after winning sectional meets on Jan. 7, and the two-day meet began Jan. 13 at the Indiana University Natatorium in downtown Indianapolis.  Courier & Press
