  • Mesker Park Zoo welcomed a new baby langur named Fern, born two weeks ago to first-time mom Ta-Shi. Zoo staff moved the pair to a quiet space with 24/7 camera monitoring — and now visitors can meet Fern while keeping voices low.  44 News
  • The Vanderburgh Humane Society is hosting a Valentine’s event where for a $5 donation residents write their feelings on a note and drop it in a litter box—cats will scratch, walk, and relieve themselves on it—and all proceeds support shelter animals with notes accepted until Feb. 15.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville Animal Care and Control warned that abandoned pets in Vanderburgh County are rising and that dumping an animal is a crime under Indiana law, so director Missy Mosby advises owners needing help to call the shelter instead of leaving pets in random locations.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • VOCES8, a world-renowned British ensemble, will perform a free concert at St. Benedict Cathedral on Feb. 24; doors open at 6:45 p.m. + the show starts at 7:30 p.m.  Courier & Press
  • A 60-city tour brings Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: In Concert to Victory Theatre on November 18 — live music syncs with the film’s full soundtrack on a large HD screen. Tickets go on sale Feb. 13 at the Ford Center Ticket Office and Ticketmaster.com.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Evansville Regional Economic Partnership shared updated plans for the River Vision park project on the riverfront, featuring elevated walkways, shopping, parks, an amphitheater and residential areas. Officials said funds are needed—construction work may start in the next two to three years.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monique Dozier (a Harrison High alum) is named assistant vice president for development at the University of Evansville effective March 3, returning home after over 20 years in higher education. Sylvia DeVault will also become senior director of community and engagement to strengthen donor and alumni ties.  Courier & Press
  • High school students will attend a free Admissions Fair at the Ford Center on March 5 during the OVC Basketball Championships. Sponsored by United Fidelity Bank, the event runs from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (offering college admissions guidance and a complimentary ticket for the women’s quarterfinals).  44 News
  • Marna Hostetler has been promoted to Dean of the David L. Rice Library at USI, effective immediately. She will oversee library operations (including budgeting and staff development) and guide strategic planning on campus.  Courier & Press
  • The University of Evansville received an estate gift of over $1 million from the late Patrick & Christine Roberts ’73 to fund scholarships for future students. The donation honors their lifelong commitment to service & education while easing financial burdens and expanding access to higher learning.  44 News

  • The Ohio Township Fire Department is using a new digital alert system (Safety Cloud by HAAS Alert) that warns drivers when emergency vehicles use lights. This technology, deployed on three Pierce Manufacturing engines, has alerted over 30,000 motorists and aims to reduce roadside accidents in Ohio Township.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local leaders held a forum tonight at the Evansville Public Library to discuss mental health resources and jail diversion programs for those in crisis. Officials from BRIDGE and police stressed the need for community support + improved systems to help those facing mental health challenges.  14 News
