- ➤ Stockwell Inn hosted its final Mardi Gras celebration today as loyal customers enjoyed traditional dishes and cheap beer while owner Audrey Christie confirmed the 40-year establishment will soon change hands but keep its name and menu (updates coming soon). 14 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the Evansville African American Museum held its annual Black History Month Unity Concert — Back to the Roots — at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with doors opening at 5 p.m. and performances by the Unity Choir and the Community Children’s Choir, with free admission. 44 News
- ➤ Mesker Park Zoo launched Orchid Escape, a free event that started Sunday and will run until March 14. The exhibit features hundreds of blooming orchids in the Amazonia Exhibit (a journey to South America). 14 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Evansville will host the first Evansville Civics Bee on April 30 at 9 a.m. in Shanklin Theatre, inviting grades 6-8 students to submit essays for a live quiz competition as part of the 2026 National Civics Bee with prizes for top finalists. Courier & Press

- ➤ Local girls swimmers competed at the IHSAA state championship (held at Indianapolis' Indiana University Natatorium) on Saturday, Feb. 14. Carmel High School earned 326.50 points to extend its 40-year title streak as athletes from Mount Vernon, Castle, and Tecumseh posted top finishes. Courier & Press
- ➤ Indiana girls high school basketball semistate games will take place Saturday with matchups at 10 a.m. and noon and championships at 8 p.m. across Classes 4A, 3A, 2A, and A. Finals are scheduled for Feb. 28 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (part of the state tournament). Courier & Press
- ➤ Residents can vote online for the Courier & Press Orthopaedic Associates high school Athlete of the Week, honoring standout performances from Feb. 9-14. Voting remains open until 10 a.m. CT Friday. Courier & Press
