COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evansville will host its 12th annual Gumbo Cook-Off on Saturday at Historic West Franklin Street. Attendees can choose a wrist band + mug admission or bring their own mug to enjoy local food, shopping and support non-profit organizations.  14 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Seven local companies from Evansville and Poseyville were named to the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Best Places to Work list for 2026, and their rankings + detailed reports will be shared at an awards dinner on May 13 at the Indiana Convention Center.  44 News
  • Schnucks announced plans Monday to celebrate its local workforce on Sunday, Feb. 22 with rewards points, digital coupons and themed dress-up days at its Evansville stores and locations in Newburgh and Jasper. The annual event honors more than 11,000 teammates who play key roles in serving our community.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Presidents Day, free admission let visitors explore Indiana Historic Sites including Angel Mounds and New Harmony (just outside Evansville) to learn about the state’s rich heritage and culture. The annual event provided families a chance to discover local history.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Evansville received over $1 million from the Roberts estate today to fund new scholarships, easing financial burdens + expanding access for future students in honor of the couple’s commitment to education. The donation will help more students pursue academic success.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joe Atkinson, who has served as Evansville’s Communications Director under Mayor Terry since 2024, was named Director of Evansville NewsLab by the University where he will lead the ChangeLab initiative to revitalize local journalism and strengthen community ties.  44 News
  • Tekoppel Avenue is closed at the Lloyd Expressway overpass today for the Lloyd4U project, as crews install an eastbound bridge — detour signs guide drivers and staff assist children walking to Tekoppel Elementary — until noon.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ferdinand Water Department issued a boil advisory Monday after a water main break; customers were advised to boil water for five minutes before drinking or cooking.  14 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Zumper data shows Evansville apartment listings fell 5% from last year's median rent of $1,055, with January's typical rent at $999 and a 6% rise compared to last month's $945 price. Changes vary by bedroom type.  Courier & Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • USI women's basketball (the Screaming Eagles) is one game behind Western Illinois in the OVC standings as they prepare to face the Leathernecks in Macomb on Thursday, Feb. 19. USI men's basketball, following an 82-74 loss to Tennessee Tech last Saturday, has been eliminated from the OVC Tournament.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville Reitz & Evansville Christian remain in the IHSAA Girls Basketball tournament and will compete on Saturday, Feb. 21 to advance to the state finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Feb. 28. Reitz plays against Center Grove in Jasper at noon while Christian faces Borden in Charlestown at 10 a.m.  44 News
