COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A celebration of life ceremony for the three boys lost in a house fire is scheduled this Saturday at 5 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church — friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the service.  14 News
  • Four Evansville Thunderbolts players visited children at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital on Tuesday as part of their yearly support program to bring positivity to patients and families. The team now prepares for weekend games against the Peoria Rivermen at the Ford Center.  44 News
  • The Vanderburgh Humane Society announced that Cat Yoga returns on Friday, Feb. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at its Cageless Cat Lounge + tickets are available online and participants must bring their own mat.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Evansville Philharmonic announced its Young Artist Competition winners on Feb. 8 at Wheeler Concert Hall. Emma Neely received the top $2,000 prize, while winners from Evansville Day School and Harrison High School earned $1,000 and $750 respectively.  Courier & Press
  • People in southwestern Indiana remembered Rev. Jesse Jackson, a civil rights leader known for his work advocating for social justice, who died Tuesday after battling Parkinson's and a rare neurological disease. His legacy (from Labor Day Association rallies to national activism) continues in the community.  14 News
  • The annual Maple Sugarbush Festival and Pancake Breakfast will take place at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve on March 7th and 8th. Families can enjoy maple syrup making demonstrations, a pancake breakfast, and scenic nature trails during the event.  44 News

  • Eleven EVSC classrooms are paired with OVC institutions through the Adopt-a-Classroom Program (sponsored by Field and Main Bank) to boost community ties ahead of the OVC Basketball Championships, where classes receive branded items and join two webinars while students are honored on March 5 at the Ford Center.  44 News

  • Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has secured a temporary site at 4905 University Drive to serve west side residents during the Red Bank branch reconstruction. The interim facility, EVPL Red Bank Express, will open soon (a materials drop box is available for returns).  44 News
  • Evansville cancer advocate Patty Avery urged Hoosier lawmakers to pass new medical debt legislation — stating that patients facing serious illness should focus on managing their condition rather than financial stress.  Courier & Press
