COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PAAWS introduced two mixed-breed puppies, Belle & Beau, in need of foster care in Evansville this week. The pair will thrive with a foster who can dedicate extra time to puppy-training as they search for a forever home.  44 News
  • Indiana veterans groups and fraternal organizations have added electronic pull-tab machines as a new way to raise funds; rules were approved on Dec. 30 by the Indiana Gaming Commission. The machines boost revenue to fund community renovations and attract younger veterans, and any adult can play during regular hours.  14 News
  • Tri-State Food Bank hosted a drive-thru distribution at Bosse Field on Friday to offer boxes of shelf-stable groceries including vegetables, fruit, and protein. Additional events are scheduled throughout February (no ID is required to participate).  14 News

  • Obituaries for Aleister, Jeramya and Paxton Craig show the lively lives of the Evansville children who died following a Feb. 8 house fire at 604 E. Powell St - their burials will be private with donations encouraged in their honor.  Courier & Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Following Ash Wednesday, Resurrection Catholic Parish launched its Lenten fish fry tradition in Evansville today. The meal features fried fish, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread, mac & cheese, green beans, dessert & for the first time, cans of beer.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Last November, local nurse Heather Hawkins noticed a change in Gary Ragsdale's strength when he visited his wife Phillis in the hospital after her stroke—prompting swift treatment for him. Now discharged and starting rehab, the couple thanked Hawkins and plan to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  14 News
