COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evansville crews are demolishing the historic former Graham Brothers Trucking building today, ending a century-old landmark linked to the city’s automotive and war legacy. County Historian Stan Schmitt noted its past production of vehicles (including military equipment) before it changed hands several times.  14 News
  • The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Foundation will host its Spring Mini Book Sale on March 7-8 (at EVPL Central's Browning Room) with thousands of books, movies and CDs priced from 50 cents to $2. Sale hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday to benefit library programs.  Courier & Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Governor Mike Braun announced Wednesday that TaylorMade Golf will invest multi-million dollars in Vanderburgh County to build a 53-acre warehouse facility at 6700 Petersburg Rd. The expansion, which promises local growth — adding up to 50 jobs by the end of 2031 — will begin operations in early 2027.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Holiday World and Splashin' Safari will host a job fair Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park's Human Resources office (Employee Parking Lot) to fill 2,000 seasonal positions; new applicants should apply online in advance.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Young & Established will transform the unused recording studio at C.K. Newsome Center into a hands-on space where local youth can record music and launch podcasts. Program director Courtney Johnson says kids in the community are already excited to take part.  14 News
  • Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library will soon open its temporary Red Bank location in the former Liberty Federal Credit Union building (next door to the closed site) to serve patrons with 20% of its collection and computer services; it is scheduled to open in a couple weeks.  14 News
  • Students at McGary Middle School have recreated a miniature version of the African American Museum in honor of Black History Month by researching, designing posters, and creating videos (in collaboration with museum staff), with activities continuing today and Monday.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Intermittent lane closures will affect U.S. 41 between Lynch Road and Interstate 69 starting on or around March 1 for ditch and shoulder work—closures will occur midday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for about two weeks, officials said.  Courier & Press
  • Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will hold an inquiry on energy affordability on Tuesday, March 24 from 9:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PNC Center. The five largest utilities, including CenterPoint Energy, will present measures to manage rising costs & improve transparency while the public may watch live online.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu cases surged 53% and RSV spiked 13% at Deaconess clinics in Evansville last week, prompting health officials to urge high-risk groups to get vaccinated and take extra precautions (including young children and seniors).  Courier & Press
  • Warrick County Coroner Alissa Enright warned locals that Kratom—a plant used for pain relief but illegal in Indiana—has been linked to overdoses in recent months and may be smuggled in with dangerous 7-OH compounds. Officials advise calling 9-1-1 immediately if Narcan is used for a suspected overdose.  14 News
