COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 19, the Evansville Vanderburgh Commission on Homelessness will host Homeless Connect at Old National Events Plaza (715 Locust St) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. over 70 local vendors will offer services ranging from health screenings to legal aid; pre-registration is available online until noon March 18.  Courier & Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Evansville’s iconic Nick Nackery, known for Halloween costumes and fun, is up for sale as owners Dan and Jana Bean plan to live abroad + the business will continue operating with the same hours and events through this Halloween season while a new owner is sought.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Red Bank Express Library is opening Wednesday on Evansville’s west side in the old Liberty Federal Credit Union building on University Drive as officials moved 20 percent of the collection and will provide computer services for all ages while a new regional library is planned.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting in 2032, drivers commuting between Henderson and Evansville will pay higher toll rates after officials approved new rates for the I-69 ORX bridge. Drivers with prepaid transponders will pay $3.14 each way while those billed by mail will pay $6.25, with rates increasing yearly by at least 2.5%.  Courier & Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hadi Shriners & Ohio Township Fire Dept. are offering a free screening clinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Station One in Rockport, where a doctor will check for bone, muscle, and burn scar issues.  14 News
  • The Vanderburgh County Health Department maintained its national accreditation on Monday, keeping its status as one of only two local health agencies in the state. Its five-year reaccreditation, granted by PHAB + following a thorough review that noted improvements in lowering infant mortality, reaffirms its commitment to public health.  44 News
  • Anne Basting will lead a free discussion on creative dementia care, aging, and building compassion at EVPL Central on March 11 starting at 6 p.m. (She is an emerita professor and founder of TimeSlips.org).  Courier & Press

  • Updated sectional schedules for Indiana high school boys basketball were released Tuesday, listing games statewide. Evansville teams will play Friday at Evansville North — with Evansville North facing Castle at 7 p.m. and Evansville Reitz taking on Evansville Harrison at 8:30 p.m.  Courier & Press
  • Championship basketball returns downtown as the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament tips off today at the Ford Center. Eight teams will compete for an NCAA berth as fans boost local hotels, restaurants + downtown businesses.  44 News
  • Indiana hosts Minnesota today at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with tip-off at 6:30 p.m. ET. Indiana enters the game following four straight losses, while Minnesota has won three of its last four contests (including an earlier Big Ten opener where they secured a win).  Courier & Press
