- ➤ Indiana University is partnering with 15 rural organizations including three local groups to refresh downtown areas as part of the 2026 Rural Placemaking Studio+ IU students and faculty will design murals and wayfinding and will showcase final ideas this summer. 44 News
- ➤ Mesker Park Zoo welcomed a new Takin named Nyima, born on Feb. 15 to parents Xing Fu and Patty; she now plays with her sister Amala in the Asia Loop while officials say this vulnerable animal (native to China) faces extinction risks due to habitat loss. 14 News
- ➤ The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs accredited Boonville Now on March 5 for its work to revitalize downtown Boonville. The organization improved the area with park developments and removal of blighted properties and will use the new status to access training and preservation grants. Courier & Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ An exhibit at the downtown library highlights local food resources and food insecurity for National Nutrition Month and partners with Feed Evansville and Bedford Collab to collect nonperishable donations through March 31 — supporting 41 local Little Free Pantry locations. 14 News
- ➤ EVSC officials announced that the theater group is now called the Summer Musical Company and will stage Titanic The Musical at the Shanklin Theater from June 11 to 14. Students will rehearse intensively in a two-week program + follow professional summer stock methods. 14 News

- ➤ Ivy Tech Evansville and Deaconess Health System launch a new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program starting May 26. The 10-week course at the Deaconess Midtown campus offers classroom and clinical training and may be free for qualifying students (registration opened March 2). Courier & Press
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ USI women’s basketball played SIUE in the OVC Tournament on Thursday at Ford Center downtown. The third seeded Screaming Eagles (favored after regular season wins) aimed for an NCAA Tournament spot while preparing to face second seeded Lindenwood in the semifinals. Courier & Press
- ➤ UE announced a multi-year apparel partnership with NIKE and BSN SPORTS that will outfit all 17 Purple Aces programs with NIKE gear. The deal boosts resources for student-athletes and coaches, supporting growth in Division I sports and enhancing campus branding. 44 News
- ➤ The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced its all-state honorees for the 2025-26 girls basketball season on March 5, including the Supreme 15 which names the top players and additional teams for large and small schools based on votes from a 20-coach panel. Courier & Press
