COMMUNITY NEWS

  • D-Patrick Ford donated $2,500 to Vanderburgh County CASA as part of its D-Patrick Ford Cares initiative; the check was presented on March 11 at the dealership on Walnut Street to support a charity that has aided over 12,000 abuse and neglect victims in the Juvenile Court System since 1984.  44 News
  • Community organizations are preparing the 18th Annual Homeless Connect event on Thursday, March 19 at the Old National Events Plaza in Evansville, where free services (legal advice, financial assistance, and health screenings) will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those needing support.  44 News
  • Downtown officials have hung shiny disco balls from Main Street trees to deter birds from nesting and leaving droppings on busy sidewalks (aiming to keep the area clean). The city will monitor the tactic to evaluate its effectiveness.  14 News
  • The West Side Nut Club will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, Mar. 28 at 1 p.m. at Mater Dei High School, where participants will search for thousands of eggs filled with candy *special prizes*.  14 News
  • Evansville Animal Care and Control is hosting Killer Cuteness this weekend where future adopters draw tags to reveal adoption prices or free gifts to help ease shelter overcrowding. The event runs Friday and Saturday.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Southern Indiana’s Romain College of Business will open a new Center for Applied Business Technologies on the first floor of the Business and Engineering Center in fall—more than $1.3 million was raised to fund labs and shared spaces where students work with emerging tech.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville officials plan to clear 10 vacant homes in a mobile home park at Virginia Street and Oak Hill Road amid fire damage and neglect. The city held its third cleanup since 2022 + will request contractor bids to demolish the units by next week, billing the owner for costs.  14 News
  • EPA will host two public meetings to discuss the Jacobsville soil contamination Superfund site. The first meeting is on March 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Public Library East and the second is on March 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Public Library Central.  44 News
  • KYTC crews will remove an unsafe abandoned structure at the corner of Main and Fawcett on North Main Street today—causing delays for Madisonville drivers as southbound traffic uses the center turning lane and the first entrance to Hanson Street is blocked.  14 News
  • Evansville pet owners must now microchip their dog, cat, and ferrets under a new ordinance passed by City Council this week. The updated rule replaces collar tags with microchips to reunite lost pets — microchip services cost $25 at city Animal Care and Control and participating clinics.  Courier & Press
  • AES appealed to the Huntingburg Zoning Board (meeting held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Huntingburg City Hall) over its Crossvine Solar and Battery Project. The project will create 300 construction jobs, with site mobilization starting next week and work scheduled to complete this fall.  14 News

  • USI will host Illuminate ALS on March 29 at Carter Hall with a screening of Stitching Strength — a film focusing on ALS journeys — and a talk by Dr. Richard Bedlack. Doors open at 2:15 p.m., and registration is required for in-person or livestream participation.  Courier & Press

  • Indiana hunters can now apply for reserved turkey hunts for 2026 when they visit GoOutdoorsIN.com; applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. ET on March 18 with a valid hunting license.  Courier & Press
  • Reitz Memorial High School will induct six former athletes into its Athletic Hall of Fame on April 11 at the Friedman Park Event Center. Tickets cost $125 per seat & $1,500 per table, and interested individuals should contact the Athletic Office for details.  44 News
