  • On March 10, Golf Gives Back donated $200,000 from its golf event proceeds and a partnership with United Leasing & Finance to Building Blocks of Southwestern Indiana at United Companies in Evansville. The group also gave Shantay Blackman a $1,000 donation and the Andy Goebel Award for early childhood development.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville Fire Department partnered with the American Red Cross over the weekend to install smoke detectors free of charge in the East Powell Avenue neighborhood (where a deadly house fire last month left a home without functioning alarms) to boost fire safety.  14 News
  • The Ford Center banned pit bulls and Rottweilers from the Pucks & Paws game on March 21 due to liability concerns, prompting the Humane Society to cancel its April 3 fundraiser—officials aim to reopen dialogue on pet policies.  Courier & Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University of Southern Indiana Chamber Choir will perform its spring concert at Rice Library’s Second Floor Reading Room on Sunday, Mar. 22 at 3 p.m. with free admission and doors opening at 2:30 p.m. (the program features works that take listeners on a journey from suffering to joy).  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Donald Ballard, one of 63 living Medal of Honor recipients, will speak at USI on April 8 at 6 p.m. in Carter Hall at University Center West; his talk will focus on his Vietnam service and ongoing veteran support.  Courier & Press
  • USI’s Disability Resources Office and Optimal ACCESS, Inc. are hosting a two-day conference, Rethinking Autism 2026: Synchronizing Connection, Regulation and Communication for Learning, at Carter Hall on the campus Thursday + Friday. Keynote speaker Erin Clarelli will address new approaches to support nonspeaking and minimally speaking autistic individuals.  44 News
  • University of Evansville will host summer camps for elementary to high school students from June 1 to July 30. The camps offer art, STEM, music, dance, E-sports + financial assistance for qualifying families.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction officials said lane restrictions will begin tomorrow on Kansas Road between Hedden Road/Oak Hill Rd Roundabout and Green River Road while crews install a sewer tap; work is expected to last a week.  14 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Zumper analysis showed that Evansville apartment listings dropped 4% from February's median of $1,035 to $995, with one-bedroom rentals falling 5% from $843 across a sample of 426 listings.  Courier & Press

  • The Princeton Tigers boys basketball team will face Indianapolis Cathedral in a semi-state game on Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. in Seymour after winning the IHSAA class 3A Regional Championship.  14 News
  • USI women’s basketball earned a first-round bye in the WNIT on Mar. 16 and will face the winner of the George Washington vs Bradley game between Mar. 22—24. The Screaming Eagles hold a 21—10 record and mark their third WNIT appearance.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville native Brandon Gaudin — a lifelong fan — is set to announce the opening two rounds of the NCAA tournament in Oklahoma City starting Thursday, March 19. His first call fulfills a childhood dream of being on a national broadcast.  Courier & Press
