COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fulton Park in Evansville will install new playground equipment this spring—workers will remove the old equipment from the northeast corner. Officials say the project is expected to finish by early June.  14 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville Police Department responded to a shots fired call on the 4200 block of Meadowridge Road at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday when a man cleaning his gun accidentally discharged it— the victim was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital and the investigation is ongoing.  14 News
  • Authorities in Vanderburgh County arrested a man on Tuesday after a brief high-speed chase when a deputy spotted his speeding near Madison Avenue and Governor Street and saw him smoking marijuana—detectives used the FLOCK camera network to quickly locate him, and he now faces charges of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.  44 News
  • An Evansville woman was sentenced to five years in federal prison—after pleading guilty to wire fraud, failure to file tax returns, and filing false tax returns—and she must repay over $2.5 million stolen from her employer during a five-year scheme using unauthorized checks and wire transfers.  14 News

  • Mesker Park Zoo welcomed two new Francois' langurs - Kimly, 12, and Tashi, 6 - who arrived from the Los Angeles Zoo following a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan and now join resident langurs Badu and Kiki in the Discovery Center as keepers carefully monitor their introduction.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Explore Evansville was honored with the Celebration of Leadership Award for its role in coordinating public safety, educational programs and hospitality efforts during the total solar eclipse on April 8 — a collaboration of city leaders, agencies, businesses and organizations. The event drew visitors nationwide and generated a $6.6 million boost to the local economy.  14 News

  • Gabby Spink, a senior guard at Gibson Southern, earned Courier & Press All-SW Indiana Player of the Year honors for the second time after helping her team win four sectionals, three regionals and a state championship run with strong scoring, rebounding and assists. Coach Brasher said her passes, defense and overall leadership made the Titans a tough team — raising the bar for future success.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville will host the Indianapolis 500 Fan Fest on Saturday, March 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Franklin Street Tavern and Bud’s Rocking Country Bar and Grill where fans will see an NTT INDYCAR SERIES show car, meet drivers and special guests, and get giveaways with age limits applied.  14 News
