EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three elementary school teachers have been named finalists for the Outstanding Educator of the Year award by sponsors Liberty Federal Credit Union, Courier & Press, and the University of Evansville. Winners will be announced in April, and the finalists include Brittany Barrett, Holly Carey, and Rebecca Schlachter, who work to boost local student success. Courier & Press
- ➤ The University of Evansville is set to host 50 Romanian high school students and four teachers in a two‑week exchange from March 30 to April 11. They will attend classes at Reitz Memorial High School and join academic workshops & cultural tours in Indianapolis and Washington D.C. Courier & Press
- ➤ University of Evansville is hosting summer camps in arts, STEM, esports and leadership for students in grades 2-12 from June to July. Registration is open now with limited space — families may also qualify for financial assistance. Courier & Press
- ➤ Marc Adam Hertzman will speak at the USI Berger Lecture from 10:30 a.m. to noon on March 26 at University Center (rooms 2217-2218). He will explain how his grandparents' activism shaped his career and influenced local legacy in a free event open to the public. Courier & Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Deflock Evansville met Sunday by the Civic Center and started an online petition asking the City Council and County Commission to suspend Flock cameras amid concerns they record too much and are easy to hack. The group says the cameras invade privacy — local debate is growing. 14 News
- ➤ State parks will add 45 electric track chairs at all parks and the state park inn after a $1 million Lilly Endowment grant, giving people with limited mobility expanded trail access. Gov. Mike Braun said the move opens more trails + sets Indiana as a leader in park accessibility. Courier & Press
- ➤ Demolition has begun on fire-damaged mobile home units in a park off Oak Hill Road after Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Commissioner Johnny McCalister ordered their removal (the work started on March 19). Courier & Press
