BUSINESS NEWS

  • Toyota announced a $200 million investment to boost capacity for the Grand Highlander at the Gibson County plant—supporting future Sienna and ongoing Lexus TX assembly. The move marks Toyota Indiana’s 30-year commitment to meeting rising customer demand.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • USI is launching a three-year project to expand outdoor education at its 730-acre nature preserve (boosted by a $150,000 environmental grant and Toyota support) by adding a new learning pavilion, a student-built footbridge and interpretive signage, with free public events and a kickoff in fall.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews began demolishing 10 vacant and damaged mobile homes at a park off Oak Hill Road last week and expect to finish by Wednesday — officials confirmed that residents will not be forced to vacate as the Department of Metropolitan Development plans additional support.  14 News
  • Crews have started replacing more than 6,000 ft of water main, seven fire hydrants, eight gate valves and 68 service connections on Oak Hill Road between Lynch Road and Saint George Road—traffic is affected by closures and no timeline is provided.  14 News
  • Town officials report that the ground in Chandler has stabilized one-year after an underground mine collapse caused damage to local homes, allowing workers to soon start asbestos removal before demolition and rebuilding efforts.  44 News
  • Evansville Animal Care and Control announced new changes (a missing pet board, an adoption display, a supply pantry, and first responder status for its officers) and will host Easter events including Project A.R.F. on Saturday, March 28.  14 News

  • Ascension St. Vincent Evansville is hosting an open house on Monday, March 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Kempf Bipolar Wellness Center to offer families, caregivers and individuals information on bipolar disorder support.  14 News

  • Courier & Press invites voters to choose its preseason softball Player of the Year, presented by Orthopaedic Associates, with votes open through Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.   • USI's Lady Eagles played Monday night in the WNIT against George Washington University after receiving a first-round bye (following a recent tournament loss to Lindenwood), with game highlights shown on 14 News at 10:00 p.m. marking their third straight WNIT season.  14 News
