COMMUNITY NEWS

  • D-Patrick Nissan donated $1,000 to Evansville Youth East Baseball ahead of the season, and officials said the support will help provide a safe and fun space for young players.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mesker Zoo will host Wild Summer Lights from July 30 through Oct. 4. The event features glowing lantern displays & live local music and food trucks during extended evening hours: in July and August, 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and in Sept and early Oct, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  14 News
  • Country music veteran Aaron Tippin will headline the 170th Gibson County Fair in Princeton at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10, where fans can enjoy a set of hits spanning his 30-year career.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Southern Indiana will host its Shaw Biology Lecture at 7 p.m. April 15 in Carter Hall, where biologist Jill Jankowski will explain hummingbirds and biodiversity in a free public event.  Courier & Press
  • USI received a $150,000 grant from Lilly Endowment to review AI use in its curricula — the project will study internal teaching, professional development and industry needs to shape new courses, running through the end of the year.  44 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal orders have kept two Indiana coal plants in Jasper and Warrick counties online until Jun. 21 due to increased energy demand. Operators NIPSCO + CenterPoint Energy will comply with the orders amid ongoing legal challenges.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville Bee City USA will launch at the University of Evansville on Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to noon (free event featuring expert talks, interactive activities, and local business booths to support pollinator efforts).  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Broadway Avenue along Evansville's west side will be closed for bridge replacement starting at 7 a.m. on April 6 and will remain closed until August 7 with detours along South Posey County Line Road to Old Mt. Vernon Road; the project is funded in part by a state matching grant.  Courier & Press
  • East Baseline Road was closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for ditching work between Cemetary Road and Petersburg Road (allowing only emergency vehicles), and officials asked drivers to use alternate routes.  14 News
  • The Indiana Department of Transportation announced alternating lane closures on U.S. 41 in Vanderburgh County starting Monday, March 30, between Diamond Avenue + the Lloyd Expressway for additional pipe work after a project inspection; work will continue for three weeks with driving and center lanes open.  14 News
