  • Mayor Stephanie Terry and the SWIN Workforce Board will host the third annual Summer Resource Fair on May 3, 1 to 3 p.m. at the EWSU Water Pump Station to connect families with free summer jobs, camps, childcare and enrichment programs, including My Summer Ride badges for free bus rides.  44 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brent and Kathy Weatherwax, owners of Pappa Bear’s Catering, acquired the historic Nisbet Inn near Haubstadt and will offer dine-in and catering services with their signature ribs, smoked chicken and sides. They will also open a new location on Weinbach Avenue in Evansville this summer while preserving the landmark’s country atmosphere.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Holiday Drive-In will open for the summer season on May 1 with an opening weekend lasting through May 3, and the movie schedule + showtimes will be released closer to the opening day.  44 News
  • Holiday Drive-In will open for its new season from Friday, May 1 (through Sunday, May 3) as officials plan to announce movie showtimes soon.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Indiana High School Athletic Association finalized new sectional alignments for southwestern schools ahead of the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons, shifting teams in basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball; for example, Heritage Hills joined Sectional 31 and Mater Dei moved up due to higher enrollment (as recommended by realignment committees).  Courier & Press
  • Harrison athletic director Andre Thomas moved immediately into a new EVSC role that supports student attendance, confirmed by school officials on Tuesday, March 31.  Courier & Press
  • Ascension St. Vincent and Vincennes University launched a 15-week Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program that blends online learning with hands-on clinical training. The program, available now to current associates, will expand later to help meet the region’s growing need for skilled healthcare workers.  44 News

  • Fire officials warn residents to avoid outdoor burning today as dry vegetation and gusty winds raise fire risks. Those with safety questions should contact the local fire department.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mike Braun ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, Apr. 4 to honor Captain Seth Koval, an Air National Guard pilot killed in action on March 12 while serving overseas. He urged residents to lower flags at their homes and businesses (a tribute to his sacrifice).  44 News
  • Crews from Evansville Water and Sewer Utility began resurfacing Riverside Drive yesterday near the former sinkhole by closing the two inside lanes — next they will close the outside lanes with work set to finish by week’s end.  14 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ascension St. Vincent is lifting visitor restrictions today after the measures were put in place last January to curb high respiratory virus activity, and officials will continue to monitor local health data closely.  14 News

  • Evansville Otters will host a preseason open house at Historic Bosse Field on Sunday, Apr. 12 (12 to 3 p.m.). The event will feature meet-and-greets with Field Manager Andy McCauley, mascot Evan the Otter and new Otterbelles, tailgate games and ticket discounts for the upcoming season.  44 News
