COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Albion Fellows Bacon Center will host Take Back the Night 2025 on April 26th in Evansville to raise awareness about sexual violence, support survivors and promote healing — the event will feature a solidarity march, community tables, live music and inspiring speakers — local groups are invited to participate.  44 News
  • At the Old National Events Plaza, the 2025 Homeless Connect provided over 600 individuals with health screenings, employment aid, financial support, housing guidance, and legal advice—officials say the event demonstrated Evansville’s commitment to addressing homelessness.  WEHT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 3rd, Evansville firefighters responded to a working structure fire on the 20100 block of Princeton Road after a call came in at 6:23 a.m.—crews were still on scene.  14 News
  • Storms on Wednesday damaged about five homes in Wadesville when falling trees wrecked mostly roofs and no injuries were reported; officials said Posey County Emergency Management began assessing damage Thursday morning as more rain made clean-up harder and urged residents to avoid roads.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Public Works crews in Owensboro cleared storm water inlets and ditches Wednesday to reduce flooding risk, and Daviess County extended sandbag handouts for residents who will need them as heavy rain is expected over the next several days—EMA director Andy Ball said it is best to be prepared.  14 News
  • Mayor Stephanie Terry will host a public forum at 5:30 p.m. on April 15 in the Browning Room at Central Library for residents to share funding priorities for the 2026 city budget — city controller Robert Gunter will present to guide the discussion.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced that work will begin this spring at Tepe Park to install a splash pad that will open this summer—equipment from Playpros is expected to arrive in June. The project is part of a $24 million parks bond that also funds new play areas at Garvin and Fulton parks—Mayor Stephanie Terry said the improvements will provide safe, modern spaces for families.  Courier & Press
  • Vanderburgh County Jail is adding its first on-site mental health unit — part of an expansion project addressing long-standing rehabilitation needs. The ten-bed unit will identify inmates unfit to stand trial and speed up the judicial process — with staff from Southwest Behavioral Health including recovery specialists, case managers, and psychiatrists.  WEHT
