The Red Cross opened an emergency flood shelter at Methodist Temple (2109 Lincoln Avenue) to help residents affected by severe weather and potential flooding.

Volunteers provide safe shelter, meals and support 24 hours a day.

A 25-year-old Evansville man, Eric Ogburn, was accused of battery and animal cruelty after he hit and tried to strangle a woman and kicked two puppies on Friday evening in the 2100 block of Waggoner Avenue, and officers said he threw one puppy against a tree causing it to seize before fleeing and being taken into custody on a $5,000 bond.

Emergency management officials joined a boat tour in Ohio County to check rising water levels that now submerge former dry land — forecasts predict the high waters will continue for the next seven to eight days.
