COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Youth Resources will host its 17th annual Big Man On Campus competition on Thursday, April 9 at Harrison High School. The family-friendly fundraiser features eight local seniors competing in four segments; doors open at 5:30 p.m. + the show starts at 6 p.m.  44 News
  • Evansville Goodwill announced a property purchase in Newburgh that may become a retail store and donation center. The development is part of a long-term plan to create a convenient venue for donations and shopping (supporting education and job training programs).  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Medal of Honor recipient Donald Ballard visited the Evansville Wartime Museum on Monday night and met with community members to discuss the medal and his service—emphasizing that it represents honor and love. He is expected to make additional stops around town during his visit.  14 News
  • USI will host The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica honoring Vietnam veterans, from Thursday, Oct. 29 through Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Broadway Recreational Complex on Broadway Avenue. The free exhibit will be open 24 hours a day and feature a mobile education center that explains the Vietnam War and the memorial's history.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Evansville hit $4.49 per gallon at a Shell station on Monday, April 6. AAA reported the national average was $4.12 & Indiana ranked 29th in the country.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Perry Township Fire Department announced road closures on Evansville’s west side. Broadway Avenue will be closed from Posey County Line Road to Old Mt. Vernon Road until Aug. 7, and Schutte Road will be closed for 14 days, so drivers are urged to use detours.  44 News
  • The southbound I-69 exit ramp to westbound Lloyd opens today 10 days early with a reconfigured T-shaped design + traffic signal to safely guide vehicles merging onto the expressway. Officials advise drivers to prepare for the new stop requirement when entering the lane.  14 News

  • Evansville and Southern Indiana basketball players entered the transfer portal after last season as the window opened April 6 for women + April 7 for men, with several athletes announcing their decisions via social media and the portal closing in two weeks.  Courier & Press
