CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville police arrested two Chaser's Bar & Grill bouncers on Sunday after video footage showed them punching, kicking and dragging a man during a dispute over a bar tab.  Courier & Press
  • A jury trial for Jason Horne, accused of killing his girlfriend in March 2024, is set to begin today at 8:00 a.m. in a Vanderburgh County courtroom—court records confirm he was scheduled to appear this morning.  44 News
  • Two Evansville men were charged after a viral video showed bouncers beating Shane Hendrix at Chaser’s Bar and Grill, with Hendrix taken to the hospital for serious injuries and his attorney filing a lawsuit for damages while demanding the full video be released — the incident raised sharp concerns over the bar's actions.  WEHT
  • Evansville teen Derrick Brifil pleaded not guilty on Monday to murder, robbery, and child in possession of a gun charges after a deadly shooting last month and was remanded on $500K cash bond in isolation from adult inmates at Vanderburgh County Jail—co-defendant Isam Clark is scheduled to appear in court next week.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • USI in Henderson is set to welcome spring with the return of SpringFest as official Allison Weihe detailed plans for a headlining concert and other festivities. The campus celebration will be held soon, and more details are expected.  WEHT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • INDOT crews began alternating lane closures on northbound I-69 in Vanderburgh County—between the exit to I-64 and the exit to Highway 57—Monday as they worked on overhead sign repairs. They also worked on the right-hand lane of Westbound I-64 near the I-69 exits, and the work is set to continue through June.  14 News
  • The City of Evansville will spend about $7.8 million to pave and improve roads and an extra $2.25 million for safety projects in 2025—funded by city funds, Community Crossing grants, and an Indiana transportation program. The City Engineer’s office will use scores from a Road Pavement Index to pick roads based on condition, traffic, and speed limits.  14 News
  • The City of Evansville spent more than $10M on road improvements in 2025—using $7.8M for paving that began on April 7 and $2.25M for planned safety upgrades like street re-striping and signal visibility. City officials said these measures address worsening road conditions and frequent driver concerns.  44 News
