COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evansville firefighter Jim DiMarco was honored by the Perry Township Fire Department for saving a woman trapped in a structure fire on January 26—he helped her escape minutes before her room was engulfed. DiMarco received the Life Saving Award at the department's monthly meeting.  14 News
  • Henderson City officials said an annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held this Saturday at Newman Park starting at 10 a.m. The event will hide 10,000 eggs for children ages 3 to 12 and include a separate hunt for adults.  14 News

  • Crews responded Tuesday morning after a 911 call reported a car stuck in flood water on Allens Lane near North 11th Avenue in Vanderburgh County.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry announced a $7.8 million plan — which includes $2.25 million for safety improvements — to pave and update roads this year, with paving having begun Monday on Barker and Fulton Avenues, Campground Road, and Allen’s Lane and further work planned on several other major streets.  Courier & Press
  • Flood waters from the Tradewater River receded Tuesday morning, allowing officials to reopen I-69 for north- and southbound traffic from I-24 in Lyon County to the I-69/I-169/Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County. Crews cleared debris, patched potholes and inspected bridges—ensuring the highway is safe for travel.  14 News
  • The Indiana Department of Homeland Security issued a travel advisory for Vanderburgh, Warrick, Spencer, Gibson, Knox, and Daviess counties due to widespread flooding that may restrict routine travel. Officials advise drivers to use caution and avoid flooded roads.  44 News
  • Evansville expects the Ohio River to rise to about 48 feet today—nearly reaching the record set in 1937—and the levee authority is rolling out aluminum flood walls to protect the city from flooding. Nearby communities are preparing as Newburgh distributes sandbags and residents near Angel Mounds worry about access.  WEHT
  • Residents have one final chance to meet their Indiana legislators this Saturday during a public forum at Central Library's Browning Room (doors open at 9 a.m. and the event runs until 11 a.m.). The League of Women Voters hosts the meeting to discuss issues like immigration, property taxes, and DEI ahead of the final third reading on bills on April 15.  Courier & Press
