COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Holiday World and Splashin' Safari will host Rubber Duck Days from June 8 to 21. The event features a 60 ft tall rubber duck and a 10 ft duck named Timmy for guest photos, themed food and family fun.  Courier & Press
  • 7 Brew held its opening ceremony at its new drive-thru at 4011 Old State Route 261 in Newburgh on Thursday, April 9 and donated over $16K from its Caffeine for a Cause fundraiser; it will host Friends and Family events and add 80 local jobs starting April 10.  44 News
  • CenterPoint Energy held its community connect event yesterday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its plaza on Riverside Drive, where residents shared feedback and learned about planned local energy improvements (according to officials).  14 News
  • Steven Wire hosts free meals every Wednesday afternoon downtown to support those in need by providing warm meals, snack packs and basic supplies. Volunteers help distribute food, drinks and hygiene items, and he will continue his program to assist vulnerable residents.  14 News
  • Today at 1:30 p.m. EST, officials in coordination with Koehler Funeral Home will hold a burial service at New Albany National Cemetery to honor an unclaimed Vietnam War veteran who had no living family. The service follows extensive outreach that began in January amid strong community support.  44 News
  • Oaklyn Library is closed today for renovations in its second update phase that upgrades doors, entryway and cafe—work including new carpet, lighting and more—and will reopen April 27 serving as an early voting location with adjusted hours until May 1.  Courier & Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will close its Classics Season with Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Victory Theatre, with a pre-concert chat at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are available through the Evansville Philharmonic website (evansvillephilharmonic.org).  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vanderburgh County recognized four educators on April 8, 2026, with surprise awards at local schools. Principal Andy Freeman at Central High and teachers Holly Carey, Stefanie Simmons and Maren Smith received $1,000 checks for outstanding performance.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, about 30 Evansville residents testified at an IURC hearing at Old National Events Plaza, detailing steep CenterPoint Energy bills and delayed service while urging officials to boost competition. Local commissioners listened carefully and will work on crafting short- and long-term solutions.  Courier & Press
  • INDOT Southwest is testing an automatic flagging system on a truck at State Road 69 near the Black River Bridge to boost worker safety. Purdue University is studying its effectiveness and more trucks may be equipped if results stay positive.  14 News
  • Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced a 30-day suspension of the 7% fuel usage tax to provide relief for Hoosiers facing high gas prices. The governor called on gasoline retailers to pass savings to consumers and requested the attorney general enforce price protections—actions taken under his emergency declaration.  14 News

  • Evansville hosts the third annual Castle Softball Invitational presented by Peoples Bank, which will run April 10-11 at Deaconess Sports Park and feature 25 high school teams playing round-robin games (including several top-ranked teams).  Courier & Press
