  • The Jasper Park Department will host its Annual Tree Giveaway at 9 a.m. on April 17; up to 1,200 seedlings, including American Plum, Bald Cypress, and Black Cherry, will be available for drive-through pickup — with a limit of four per car.  44 News
  • Mesker Park Zoo officials announced they welcomed a new baby penguin named Hopscotch on March 18—its sex cannot be determined yet because penguins lack external organs; the parents, Prince and Calypso, are keeping the chick well-fed and healthy.  14 News

  • Dispatchers in Evansville said one person was rescued from a flooded car on Allens Lane near Skylane Airport shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday—authorities told drivers to avoid driving through flooded roadways.  14 News

  • A business from Haubstadt served hot meals to Princeton residents hours after a tornado hit on Thursday—Pappa Bears Catering said it had helped in past disasters in Mayfield, Kentucky.  WEHT

CRIME NEWS

  • Anthony Cook, a previously convicted drug dealer, was arrested Thursday at his Madison Avenue home after police executed a search warrant—he now faces charges for maintaining a common nuisance and drug dealing.  44 News
  • Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Tyler Daniel Vest on Thursday on charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography after a search warrant at his Evansville home on Harlaxton Drive yielded evidence—he admitted during police questioning to downloading illegal images.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mike Braun declared a state of disaster emergency for 18 counties (Gibson, Perry, Posey, Spencer, and Warrick) due to severe weather. The 30-day declaration allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance for repairs and recovery.  44 News
  • Evansville Police will host a 'Coffee with a Cop' event Tuesday, April 15 at Revival Coffee Company (5025 Constellation Avenue) where residents can meet law enforcement and view a K9 demonstration at 8 a.m.  44 News
