  • Today, more than 200 University of Evansville students and volunteers built small outdoor barns for Habitat for Humanity homeowners to support affordable housing. The six-year event brings the community together—helping families move closer to homeownership.  14 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities in Vanderburgh County said a pedestrian died today after being hit by a CSX train near Duesner Road and Zimmerman Road shortly before 6:30 a.m.—flooding made it difficult for deputies and fire crews to reach the scene.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42-year-old William Zentmyer after he drove his car into 3 to 5 feet of flood water on Thursday near Allens Lane and Eleventh Avenue and later was found on the ground near Grove Street with a BAC of .134—he has been charged with driving while intoxicated and disregarding a traffic control device.  14 News
  • Posey County deputies were called just after midnight today when a stranded driver on Interstate 64 was stopped+ they found 800 pounds of marijuana and synthetic marijuana in his vehicle and arrested 69-year-old Clarance Shipman of Fort Payne, who is suspected of moving the drugs from Los Angeles to North Carolina.  WEHT
  • Evansville Police used an Indiana State Police helicopter—operating between 8 p.m. and midnight on Friday—to issue 42 tickets, 68 warnings, a child restraint ticket, 2 drug arrests and 6 criminal arrests for charges including warrants service, suspended licenses, marijuana possession, reckless driving and operating without a license, with ISP saying drivers can expect more enforcement details through the summer.  14 News

  • USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced a public health alert that some popular soup and bowl products sold in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio may have wood contamination—this follows a cilantro recall for foreign material detected in these items. Consumers are urged to discard or return the products to the place of purchase.  WEHT
