COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library will host a free tennis event for kids ages 6 to 16 on Sunday, May 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the Central Indiana District of the USTA will supply racquets & equipment with the first 100 participants receiving a free racquet as part of National Tennis Month and the kickoff for the summer reading program.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UE LitFest runs April 16–18 at the University of Evansville, featuring student readings starting at 4 p.m. on the first day and a keynote by Tim O’Brien biographer Alex Vernon at 7 p.m. on the second day (free and open to the public).  Courier & Press
  • University of Evansville announced updated transfer policies that let transfer students bring up to 90 credit hours from accredited schools, count courses with a grade of C minus or higher toward their degree, and require 30 credits at UE. The change is meant to broaden access and lower costs.  44 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Lyrids meteor shower will light up Evansville’s skies from today to April 30, with a peak around April 21 that brings five to six meteors per hour, according to NASA. Stargazers are urged to find dark areas away from city lights (weather permitting).  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville honors dispatchers during National Telecommunicators Week by recognizing the vital role these professionals play in handling about 800 emergency calls daily at the local dispatch center. Community members may bring donations (snacks, coffee, or supplies) to help support their work.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Encompass Health’s Newburgh rehabilitation hospital will expand its campus, adding 40 private patient beds, moving 18 beds from its midtown Evansville site, and building a state-of-the-art therapy gym + expanded kitchen, pharmacy, and supply areas; the work is expected to finish by November.  44 News
  • Health officials have extended the RSV immunization window through April 30 to help protect infants and young children from lingering cases. Doctors advise parents to consult pediatricians if they notice signs of breathing trouble.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Registration is open for Rick Stein Basketball Camps at USI with an elite camp on June 14 for high school girls at Liberty Arena plus Screaming Eagles Complex and team camps on June 22+23 starting at 9 a.m. Teams pay $90 per game or $450 per team for five games.  Courier & Press
  • Hoosier fans can view the Indiana University National Championship Trophy & other postseason awards at Old National Events Plaza today from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The free public tour celebrates IU's 16-0 season while fans are encouraged to arrive early.  44 News
  • Indiana University’s National Championship trophy and six football awards were on display today at Old Nation Events Plaza - giving fans an up-close look at IU glory. The tour will move to Fort Wayne tomorrow and New Albany on Wednesday.  14 News
