  • Wesselman Woods will host free Earth Day family activities Saturday for local residents—Kristina Arwood and Elaine Kung provided details during a Daybreak interview.  WEHT

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville Police arrested three suspects—19-year-old Nasir Gaines, 19-year-old Alondre Price, and 18-year-old Naydin Barnes—for robbing and confining a woman at the Clarion Inn and Suites on East Indiana Street after she said they held her down and took her money.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Evansville’s New Tech Institute is holding a send off for its robotics team—the Thunderbots—this afternoon in the school cafeteria. After winning the statewide Engineering Inspiration Award in Greenwood, the team will compete in the first world championship in Houston when the competition starts tomorrow.  WEHT
  • The University of Evansville received a $500,000 estate gift from Emeritus Trustee M. Stephen Harkness to support five endowed scholarships in memory of his family. His lifetime giving of nearly $1.2 million for scholarships and projects will help students, especially those from Wood Memorial High School and the surrounding area.  WEHT

  • A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet began a routine inspection of Shawneetown Bridge Monday morning along the stretch from KY 56 to Illinois Highway 13 — lane restrictions and flaggers were in use Monday and will continue through Friday as crews used specialized equipment to inspect the bridge.  14 News

  • On April 11, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service recalled several soup and bowl products possibly contaminated with wood in cilantro – the recall includes Campbell's, Molly's Kitchen, Sysco and other brands sold in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.  Courier & Press

  • 44News anchor and reporter Claire Dugan married fellow reporter Mitch Carter over the weekend in Evansville — the couple met while covering a house fire in January 2022 and began dating after sharing work stories — marking a new chapter together.  44 News

  • Highland Challenger Baseball, an adaptive league for children, teens and young adults with special needs, held its opening game this weekend in Evansville — athletes took turns batting, fielding and running the bases. Officials said volunteers are needed on the field and Mattingly Charities donated funds for brand new uniforms.  WEHT
