  • Danny Tieken, who spent 44 years coaching high school football from Evansville to eastern Indiana, died Tuesday at his Dugger home at age 69—he was known for his passion for the game and his support for generations of players and coaches.  Courier & Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Evansville police arrested 34-year-old Megan Nicole Schmett on 18 counts of animal neglect after they responded to a Madison Avenue home where they found four dead dogs and removed 14 living dogs—official records indicate that investigators noticed foul odors, large flies, and decaying animal remains during the scene investigation.  44 News
  • Authorities arrested 42-year-old Andrew Sheets after a speeding stop led them to his car containing over 80 grams of fentanyl and heroin—along with pills, cocaine, and meth—while he was traveling from Chicago to Evansville.  14 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from Apartment List shows that in March, apartment rental prices in Vanderburgh County slightly increased from February's average of $1,059 to $1,062 — a 0.2833% rise from last month and 3.6% higher than a year ago. One- and two-bedroom listings remain below state and national averages.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and county officials declared a local disaster emergency for Evansville and Vanderburgh County after flooding, severe storms and strong winds began on March 30 — the proclamation issued Thursday morning remains in effect for at least seven days while local residents submit damage reports.  Courier & Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Officials broke ground on the 420 Main development in May 2024 at the former 18-story tower site to add 161 housing units and underground parking to downtown Evansville, with completion planned for mid 2026. City leaders have also set plans to build a new green space a couple of years after the project—creating a central hub for residents and visitors.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Evansville Thunderbolts won their first SPHL President’s Cup Semifinals game with a 2-0 shutout over Peoria as forward Logan Vande Meerakker scored on a breakaway and Aiden Litkey added a goal at 1:20, and game two is scheduled for today at the Ford Center (7:00 p.m.) with a potential game three on April 19 (if needed).  44 News
