  • Holiday World and Splashin' Safari is releasing its updated Accessibility Guide today after working with Easterseals Rehabilitation Center. The guide introduces a new sensory rating system for sound, sight, touch, movement, and splash+it also updates the Boarding Pass System to let qualified guests board their first ride instantly.  44 News
  • 14 News Sunrise has named Emmy-nominated journalist Casie Mason—the former reporter in Evansville and Nashville Insider host—as its new anchor as Jamee French moves to evenings.  14 News
  • Wendell Foster will accept donated yard sale items at the Young Building, at 815 Triplett Street, from April 29 to May 1 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to raise proceeds for gifts for residents. The spring yard sale will be held on May 2 and May 3 (7 a.m. to noon) for community shoppers seeking quality items and unique finds.  WEHT

  • Tex-Mex restaurant chain Chuy’s announced it will open a new restaurant on Evansville’s East Side in the building that once housed O'Charley's on May 13. The 6155 sq ft venue offers indoor dining with a 48-seat patio—and it will provide curbside to-go service while partnering with a local group to support youth.  Courier & Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Indiana State Police said that 57-year-old Brad Fiscus was found dead at his Oakland City home Thursday during a welfare check— a suspect was detained and an autopsy will occur today.  Courier & Press
  • A Silver Alert has been issued for missing 3-year-old Zy'ria Salas + 1-year-old Zacari Owens, who were last seen with their mother Damyaih Owens in Newburgh at 2:00 p.m. on April 24 and are believed to be in danger.  44 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Evansville school board is negotiating with one candidate to replace Superintendent David Smith, who will retire on July 1 after serving 14 years. The board plans to schedule a public hearing in early May as state law requires a 10-day posting of the contract on its website — details are expected soon.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana legislators cut all state funding for public broadcasting Thursday, eliminating $3.675 million in annual funds and putting nearly 45% of WNIN’s budget at risk. The station may lose additional federal dollars if lawmakers follow suit—forcing potential cuts to local programming and staff support.  Courier & Press
  • Indiana passed a state budget overnight that lets the governor remove alumni-elected board members from Indiana University, a change critics call a power grab+ local broadcaster WNIN lost 17% of its budget after more than $440,000 was cut for each of the next two years, and its local programming may face cuts as staff work to protect their jobs.  14 News
