- ➤ Goodwill and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will host the Breaking Barriers Resource & Job Fair on May 8 at The Helms Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the free event connects people with career opportunities, education, and essential support including employer interviews and resume help. - ➤ Residents can save on early bird pricing for the Hadi Shriners Spring Half Pot while the jackpot nears $70,000; special ticket bundles expire after April 30 and donors may buy online or in person with the drawing set for 10 a.m. June 1 at the Hadi Temple downtown. 44 News

- ➤ Students in the Academy of Science & Medicine presented their health topic research Tuesday, Apr. 28 at Central High School with community advisors and peers observing, marking a key step toward college readiness. 14 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana Department of Transportation will close State Road 165 near Poseyville starting Monday, May 4 for a chip and seal maintenance project. The closure from SR 66 to SR 68 will use a detour (SR 68 to SR 69 to SR 66) while work lasts two weeks pending weather. 14 News
- ➤ On Tuesday, Mayor Stephanie Terry celebrated her 50th birthday as officials decorated her office at the Civic Center to mark the milestone. Terry (the first woman and African American mayor) was elected in the 2023 municipal race and has led city service since Jan. 1, 2024. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville City Council set aside $15,000 on Monday to help residents of a mobile home park off Oak Hill Road cover moving expenses, with residents eligible for up to $1,000 each until Dec. 31 (the funds come from interest on American Rescue Plan Act dollars). HOPE of Evansville will manage the distribution and return any unused cash to the city. Courier & Press
- ➤ Schissler Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday for paving work; only local and emergency vehicles can use the road (workers and equipment may cause delays), so drivers should use alternate routes. 14 News
- ➤ Crews at the Indiana Department of Transportation will close SR 165 near Poseyville starting May 4 for a chip and seal project — work expected to last two weeks depending on weather — as local drivers follow a detour along SR 68, SR 69, and SR 66. 44 News

- ➤ The Vanderburgh County Health Department selected Dr. Jason Bredenkamp as its new health officer — his appointment now awaits review by the County Council — and he will begin May 22 in a part-time $115,000 role replacing Dr. Ken Spear. Courier & Press
- ➤ Hadi Shrine is hosting a free health screening + the event runs on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hadi Temple in Evansville for all community members, and children up to 18 may be eligible for further care at Shriners Hospitals for Children. 14 News

Annual Memorial Day Service
Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
