COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials at Warrick Humane Society said they will break ground on a new shelter on May 14th as two-thirds of construction costs have been raised + site work plans have been finalized. The three-phase project will begin with construction and a poured foundation, then move on to installing kennels and indoor furnishings before a grand opening is held.  14 News
  • The Hadi Shrine Half-Pot reached a record-breaking total of $240,370 and a winning ticket was drawn with number A-16593471; the winner should call 812-423-4285 or email [email protected] to arrange a meeting at the office at 6 Walnut St.  44 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The jury trial for former interim Fire Chief Paul Anslinger, accused of felony theft, has been canceled due to an agreement between the parties and a hearing will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Evansville—further details are awaited.  44 News
  • Keymontai Madison pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and had his murder charge dropped after the August 2024 shooting death of 23-year-old Kevion Mann on MLK Boulevard near Kennedy Tower—he was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison with nine months of credit while Mark A. Dow III is set for a review hearing later this month on charges of assisting a criminal.  14 News
  • Evansville Police responded to several 911 calls early Sunday morning at Barker and Ray Becker Parkway when they found a heavily damaged pickup truck and driver Scott Allinder, 23, who admitted drinking and had a blood alcohol level of .162—twice the legal limit.  14 News

  • Casie Mason *an Emmy-nominated journalist with over 15 years of experience* joined 14 News Sunrise on Monday where she hosted hourly chats with Mitch. She began her career in Evansville and later gained national recognition as host of Nashville Insider.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • USI seniors will graduate this weekend at ceremonies held at Liberty Arena on campus with no tickets needed and doors opening 45 minutes before each event. The School of Graduate Studies will hold its ceremony at 5 p.m. May 9—while ceremonies for Nursing, Science, Liberal Arts and Business will take place at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. May 10—and all events will be streamed online.  Courier & Press
