- ➤ Downtown Evansville Improvement District is hosting its 8th Annual Sidewalk Sale on May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 150 local makers, businesses & residents will offer items and special deals along Main Street with free parking and photo opportunities. 14 News
- ➤ Warrick Humane Society will host Rescues Rock, an adoption event featuring adoptable dogs and possibly cats, on Saturday, May 17 at TCC Verizon in Newburgh between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Attendees can meet animals, learn about the shelter's mission, and explore ways to get involved. 44 News
- ➤ Honor Flight of Southern Indiana said its next flight for veterans will take off on Sept. 26. Veterans already on file need not reapply as selections begin mid-July, prioritizing the oldest veterans unless flagged as a medical need by their physician. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville declared May 3–9 as National Travel and Tourism Week to celebrate the local travel and hospitality industry's role in boosting the economy (including a community celebration at Evansville Otters Opening Day at Bosse Field on May 7). 44 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville received formal certification for its new psychiatry residency program to help address growing mental health needs. The program will welcome its first residents in July 2027 plus offer training in clinical work with Deaconess Hospital. 14 News
- ➤ EVSC officials announced graduation rates reached 89.7% for 2025 — up 10.5% since 2021 — and introduced a new diploma option for class 2029 plus middle school redesign. A signing day for armed forces and workforce will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Old National Events Plaza under Superintendent Dr. Hoover. 44 News
- ➤ Registration for the Easterseals iCan Bike camp, set for June 1-5 at the National Guard Armory, closes today. Campers ages 8+ with disabilities will attend daily 75-minute sessions to learn to ride two-wheeled bikes for a $200 fee, while financial assistance and volunteers support the event. Courier & Press

Annual Memorial Day Service
Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
