COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Greg Stephens (who is deaf) retired after nearly 50 years at Goodwill mostly at Washington Square Mall, where he built close connections with coworkers and customers, and he is looking forward to fishing and downtime with his family.  14 News
  • Warrick Humane Society will offer a summer Junior Volunteer Program for teens ages 13 to 15 (Saturdays in May, weekdays in June) to provide practical experience in animal care. The $35 fee includes a t-shirt and requires six sessions for a certificate; early registration is recommended via email.  44 News
  • City leaders announced plans to build Indiana's largest splash pad at Iglehart Park, the former Lloyd Pool site; construction begins this month with most work scheduled for late summer. The pad will operate seasonally from May through October with interactive zones for all ages and a year-round restroom.  14 News

  • High school seniors gathered at Old National Event Plaza for EVSC Signing Day as 130 students connected with over 50 local companies ranging from manufacturing + health care to the armed services and skilled trades.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evansville Fire Department has reintroduced Rescue Shield, an ambulance membership covering out-of-pocket costs after insurance pays — the $89 per household service offers financial protection as emergency services transition. Residents can enroll now using an informational flyer and video tutorial.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, National Nurses Week begins as Evansville nurse Ann Anderson reflects on her seven-decade career. She started at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1956, worked in the ICU, surgery, and emergency, and now mentors new nurses including her daughters.  14 News

  • The Evansville Thunderbolts beat the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 at Ford Center on Wednesday night, forcing the series to game four today at 7 p.m. A fifth game may be scheduled in Peoria on Saturday, May 9 at 7:15 p.m.  44 News

    Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
