- ➤ Officials in Evansville announced that a ribbon cutting for the new accessible path at Wesselman Woods took place Monday around 10 a.m., and free park admission is available Tuesday through Sunday during regular hours — with a free outdoor concert by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s Eykamp String Quartet on Sunday afternoon. 14 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Evansville police arrested 20-year-old Damyas R. Wells early Monday after he allegedly broke into a home on the 1100 block of Powell Avenue on March 31, with surveillance video showing him forcing open a window and leaving with a duffle bag plus backpack containing stolen items valued between $750 and $50,000. 14 News
- ➤ Evansville police arrested 21-year-old Amiyah Render after she attacked a victim with a knife and then checked on the victim in the hospital—where the victim suffered large cuts on the head and thigh and was headed into surgery. 44 News
- ➤ Jaron Wells, an Evansville man charged with murdering his mother who was found dead at her Harriet Street home and arrested in Carrier Mills in 2023, appeared in court Monday to set a new trial date after a mistrial—his trial is now set for June 11. WEHT
- ➤ Larry Richmond Sr., charged with killing EFD firefighter Robert Doerr in February 2019, appeared in court Monday at 2 p.m. after his defense asked to move the trial and a new judge, Celia Pauli, was named—though his venue change request was denied. WEHT

- ➤ The acapella group Straight No Chaser will perform in Evansville on December 14 at Old National Events Plaza (show begins at 7 p.m. and tickets start at $45.50) as part of its Holiday Road Tour, with ticket sales opening Wednesday. 14 News

- ➤ The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library invited teens 12 to 18 to learn about the Civil Rights Movement at EVPL Central with an illustrated presentation by Dr. James MacLeod from the University of Evansville — he will highlight local battles for a fairer society. The event will take place Wednesday, May 14th from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 200 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. 44 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work on the Lloyd Expressway will block access to two West Side roads this month as INDOT closes the Lloyd and McDowell Road intersection near USI for about two weeks with reopening expected before Memorial Day weekend + another closure at Lloyd and Schutte Road may begin May 19 after McDowell work ends, part of an overhaul that will continue until 2028.
