- ➤ The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library launched its free Riverfront Reads program yesterday on the riverfront, featuring stories, songs and activities during eight summer Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. The first event at The Pagoda included local partners, with refreshments available for purchase if weather permits. - ➤ Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden in Evansville announced the birth of a Humboldt penguin chick named Wensleydale (staff call him Dale) in February, and he will soon be available for visitors. The zoo said additional baby animals may debut later this year. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville's Trinity UMC is helping Madison's historic Trinity church after a fire damaged it Monday night. The church is taking special offerings on May 24 to support rebuilding efforts + preserve its role in the community. 44 News

- ➤ Third Day, TobyMac and Chris Tomlin will perform at the Ford Center on Friday, Nov. 6 — tickets go on sale next Wednesday at 11 a.m. 14 News
- ➤ The EVPL Foundation will host a free summer concert series of 10 performances at EVPL Central, East, and Oaklyn from May 16 to Aug. 15. Concert times vary by location, with Central shows from 6 to 8 p.m. and East and Oaklyn events from 6 to 7 p.m. Courier & Press

- ➤ The Evansville Police Department is hosting its Read to Succeed Summer Reading Program from June through August to boost literacy and community engagement among local children — events are held at schools, libraries, and bookstores. 44 News

- ➤ Evansville launched the Southwest Indiana Solar Co-op with Solar United Neighbors — lowering electricity bills with free roof assessments and group buying — and will hold free info sessions on May 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Vanderburgh Public Library and May 20 at 1 p.m. at EVPL McCollough Library. 44 News

- ➤ Downtown Evansville now has a 24/7 public restroom facility at the corner of Sycamore and 6th Street next to the METS bus station, maintained by the Downtown Economic Improvement District with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. 44 News
- ➤ Today the city opened its first public restroom available 24/7 at the corner of Sycamore and Sixth near the METS bus station — the ADA-compliant facility is cleaned twice daily and funded by Terre Haute casino proceeds. Courier & Press

- ➤ Public safety officials warn that illicit fentanyl mixed with potent synthetics like xylazine, nitazenes, cychlorphine, and medetomidine creates a hidden overdose risk today in Evansville — residents are urged to avoid unprescribed pills and call 911 for emergencies. 44 News
- ➤ A professor of public health at the University of Evansville said the hantavirus case on a cruise ship will not spur a pandemic because it spreads only under ideal conditions. She urged residents to avoid disturbing rodent droppings (the virus’s main spread) and noted that outbreaks, while deadly, are rare. Courier & Press

Annual Memorial Day Service
Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
