  • Schnucks launched its 9th annual Round Up at the Register campaign yesterday to support Folds of Honor by providing scholarships for families of fallen and disabled military veterans and first responders + customers at local Schnucks can round up their grocery bills until Tuesday, May 26.  44 News
  • Mesker Park Zoo welcomes a new baby Humboldt penguin named Wensleydale, born in February to parents Prince and Calypso. Visitors can enjoy exhibit presentations at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with feedings at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. during zoo hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Courier & Press

  • Ruler Foods in Evansville is offering a 10% Memorial Day discount for active-duty and veteran service members and their dependents when they present a valid military ID at checkout, excluding select items (alcohol, tobacco, stamps, gift cards, and service fees).  14 News
  • CenterPoint Energy launched a weekly walk-in pilot at its downtown plaza where customers can meet billing specialists face-to-face every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—helping residents with bill payments and account questions.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakland City University will remain open thanks to a new strategic partnership that officials say may prevent further WARN notices; however, employees are still waiting for payment because of banking issues.  14 News
  • The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library launches its 2026 summer reading celebration 'Our Summer: 250 Years of History' starting Sunday, May 31 at EVPL Central from 1-4 p.m. The program offers age-tailored tracks, free registration, and nearly 600 free events in June and July & invites all to join.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • University of Evansville hosted an emergency drill yesterday in cooperation with local law enforcement — officials said the drill, held at the southeast corner of campus near Weinbach and Lincoln Avenues, was completed by noon.  14 News
  • Evansville law enforcement agencies are launching overtime seat belt patrols under the national Click It or Ticket campaign through May 31 to ensure drivers and passengers buckle up. Authorities say the effort is meant to keep roads safer.  Courier & Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ascension St. Vincent Evansville added two state-of-the-art ambulances using a six-figure gift from the Dr. Edward B. Long Foundation to boost emergency services for the region. A formal blessing took place Wednesday at St. Vincent Evansville.  44 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that February's median home sale price in Vanderburgh County climbed to $223,566 from $217,125 in January, a 24 percent rise from last February. Single-family home prices increased 4 percent while condo and townhome prices saw a steep drop.  Courier & Press

  • Central High School retired Maddy Shirley's jersey (No. 32), making her the first player honored in school history. A ceremony is planned during a girls basketball game next season to celebrate her record-breaking career.  Courier & Press
  • Central High School announced plans to retire basketball star Maddy Shirley’s jersey next season at a home game (exact schedule to be determined).  Courier & Press
  • On Wednesday, the Colorado Rockies purchased left-handed pitcher Grif Hughes' contract from the Evansville Otters after his historic Opening Day performance earned him Frontier League Pitcher of the Week honors. Hughes becomes the 99th Otters player to sign with a Major League Baseball organization.  44 News
