  • Toyota Motor North America announced that Jason Puckett will become president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana effective Monday—he will also serve as group vice president for operations in Missouri and Tennessee, replacing Tim Hollander who took a position with Toyota Canada, and Puckett has been with Toyota since 1997.  Courier & Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies in Evansville arrested 21-year-old Braedan Hobbs after he admitted to stealing farm equipment when he listed a $700 sprayer on Facebook Marketplace for sale and arranged an online meeting where officers took him into custody — his truck held other stolen tools and items used to cover rent arrears.  44 News
  • An Evansville woman was arrested after a traffic stop on Jackson Avenue on Wednesday when detectives from the Evansville Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force found meth and a significant amount of fentanyl—39-year-old Chasity Lindenschmidt now faces drug dealing charges.  14 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Evansville Wartime Museum unveiled a travelling exhibit on the Salvation Army’s Donut Lassies this week during National Salvation Army Week; the display is on loan from the Salvation Army Central Territory Museum and is open for view until June 16 at 7503 Petersburg Road. The exhibit honors the women who fried donuts for WWI soldiers — a tribute to their lasting bravery — and connects local heritage with national celebration.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CenterPoint Energy is accepting applications for its Community Safety Grant Program until May 31—local governmental agencies may apply for grants of up to $2,500 to fund safety equipment and projects. Since 2003 the program has supported more than 1,600 safety projects and has awarded over $3.25 million in grants.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A free child CPR and choking prevention class will take place in Evansville later this month with training by The Women’s Hospital using American Heart Association curriculum; the course will be held at (Little Lambs of Evansville) on May 21 at (1 p.m.).  WEHT

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 15, Castle won the SIAC boys track & field championship at Central High School with a 109-103 win over North—Dane Kramer won the 800-meter run and Izach Salpietra led the high jump while North set a new 4x100 relay record at 42.29 seconds. Heritage Hills later claimed the PAC title at Tell City with 134 points over Princeton.  Courier & Press
  • Explore Evansville announced that the nationally recognized King Kat Tournament Trail will make its first-ever stop in Evansville on May 17 at the Dogtown Boat Ramp with anglers set to fish in the J.T. Meyers Pool—participants must have lines out by 3 p.m. and be in the weigh-in line by 4 p.m. A King Kat Youth Fishing Rodeo will also occur at Burdette Park Lakeside from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.—registration begins onsite at 8 a.m.  WEHT
