- ➤ Posey County will open its first inclusive playground, Avery’s Place, at Hagemann Park on Sunday at 1 p.m.—a project led by Mt. Vernon High School senior Racheal Deno with Unlimited Play. The new playground honors Avery Beste’s legacy—providing free access for all children. 14 News
- ➤ About 50 people gathered at the Four Freedoms Monument on Thursday afternoon in Evansville to mark the Nakba’s 77th anniversary and express support for Palestine. Organizers from the Palestine Solidarity Coalition of Southwestern Indiana led the event, where participants held candles and Palestinian flags— and shared poems, stories, and songs. Courier & Press

- ➤ The Indiana Court of Appeals upheld Taylor Smith’s conviction for neglect after she rolled over on her 13-day-old baby, Wade Wilson, while under the influence, and she was sentenced to a 30-year prison term while the baby's father received a 15-year sentence with 5-year probation. 14 News

- ➤ High school seniors in Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties are preparing for graduation ceremonies held throughout May; Castle and Boonville High Schools graduate seniors today while Tecumseh High will hold its ceremony on May 30. In Evansville, Memorial and Mater Dei will graduate on Sunday, May 18 at the Ford Center, and EVSC schools will celebrate graduations next week on May 21, May 22, and May 23. 44 News

- ➤ Evansville Water and Sewage Utility crews will close the northbound lanes of Wabash Avenue of Flags from Lloyd Expressway — Indiana Street for water main work next week — drivers should plan alternate routes. 14 News
- ➤ The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office tested its storm sirens on Friday at noon in anticipation of severe weather - the Mounty Olympus siren is confirmed to be working. 14 News

- ➤ Survivors of heart disease and stroke will gather today for the American Heart Association’s Evansville Tri-State Heart Walk, an event that raises funds to help residents live longer, healthier lives. Pre-walk activities start at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. (participants choose a one-mile or two-mile route) (a record-setting $86,000 has been raised). 14 News
