EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is launching 'Our Summer: 250 Years of History,' a reading program for all ages that kicks off on May 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. at EVPL Central and runs through July 31 with themed tracks, prizes, and nearly 600 free programs.  Courier & Press
  • USI’s nursing program received a $1 million gift from the family of former dean Dr. Nadine Coudret and will be renamed the Coudret Nursing Program to fund needs (including an annual half-tuition scholarship for nursing students) after a campus reception on May 8.  Courier & Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that State Road 64 near Oakland City will close Tuesday, May 26 for bridge repair work. Repairs are expected to last about a month and drivers should follow a detour via State Road 57 to State Road 357 — exercise caution near work zones.  44 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Courier & Press Athlete of the Week poll for May 11-16, presented by Orthopaedic Associates, is open until 10 a.m. CT Friday. Voters can select from standout local performances in softball, baseball, volleyball, and track.  Courier & Press

    Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
