- ➤ The American Water Charitable Foundation presented a $150,000 check to United Way of SW Indiana to support programs for families in Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Spencer Counties — the donation is part of over $400K given by Indiana American Water this year. 14 News
- ➤ Betty Richard, a resident at Heritage Woods, celebrated her 106th birthday on Monday with family and friends, sharing stories from her long life (including her love of design inherited from her father). 14 News

- ➤ Evansville's Be Happy Pie Company (with 2 locations) was named 2026 Entrepreneur of the Year by Indiana Small Business Development Center; its award ceremony is set for Wednesday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the west side location. The company runs franchises in Kentucky and plans expansion to Kansas City. 14 News
- ➤ Retailers including Lowe's, Sam's Club, The Home Depot, Samsung, and AJ Madison are offering up to 50% off on appliances for Memorial Day. Sales run now through next week, giving Evansville shoppers a chance to upgrade their homes at major savings – check individual store dates. Courier & Press

- ➤ Officials said last Friday that deposits would be received in one to two days, but employees at Oakland City University still have not received their pay checks; the next paycheck will be issued Friday & employees are advised to contact the Indiana Department of Labor if delays continue. 14 News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced grants up to $100,000 for recycling and hazardous waste projects available to local governments, schools, and nonprofits — applications will be accepted from May 18 through June 26. Final funding decisions will be made in December. 44 News

- ➤ Evansville City Council will discuss the new solar co-op at its meeting tonight, following Solar United Neighbors' free session held Monday at the Central Library that introduced a solar panel program beginning with a complimentary roof assessment. 14 News
- ➤ Today, INDOT shifts U.S. 41 traffic from northbound to southbound lanes between County Road 300 South and County Road 100 West near Princeton as work on the southbound bridge ends and replacement begins on the northbound bridge. The on-ramp from County Road 300 South will close—detours are in place. 44 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Jason Bredenkamp was introduced Monday as Vanderburgh County’s new health officer after a months-long search and will assume his role on Friday, May 22. He is a 26-year emergency physician who replaces Dr. Ken Spear. 14 News
- ➤ Medical professionals warn that swimming is fun yet dangerous if kids are unsupervised and advise teaching youngsters to swim and appointing a watch adult (using a wristband) for pool safety; Dr. John Voyles also recommends using SPF 30 sunscreen, bright swimsuits, and hydration to guard against heat risks this summer. 44 News

Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
