- ➤ This weekend, Evansville residents can attend a Malcolm X panel at Central Library from noon to 2, a Bayard Park anniversary celebrating 125 years with free lunch, and a local author fair at McCollough Library featuring book readings and local food. Courier & Press
- ➤ Feed Evansville invites residents to join the Brown Bag Challenge today by packing a lunch and donating coffee or money. Participants may join individually or form teams to help fund free lunches and snacks for children at local pools this summer. 14 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A fifth grader at John H. Castle Elementary School received a Certificate of Excellence on May 19 from the Ohio Township Fire Department after calling 911 for a family member’s medical emergency on Oct. 28, 2025. Officials say her calm response showed courage beyond her years. 44 News
- ➤ Three Harrison High School seniors in the AVID program will graduate today from a program that supports first-generation college-bound students and helps them earn 5.2 million in scholarship offers. 14 News
- ➤ Following Oakland City University’s program suspension, University of Evansville offered transfer pathways for displaced students. It set up a digital resource page and is providing an OAKS TO ACES SCHOLARSHIP (up to $10,000) to help affected students finish their degrees. 44 News
- ➤ The University of Southern Indiana announced Tuesday a support plan for Oakland City University students and employees affected by the suspension of undergraduate programs, offering waived application fees & a $1,200 scholarship, personalized academic counseling, and credit transfer reviews along with job listings for displaced personnel. 44 News
- ➤ Mater Dei High School began phase 2 renovations after the academic term ended. The Maryland Street entrance (closed through August) means students, staff, and visitors must use the main drive off Harmony Way, with Door 3 as the temporary entry and Door 4 for athletic events. 44 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana DNR announced three free fishing days for residents to fish in public waters without a license—June 6, June 7 and Sept. 26—with bag limits and size restrictions in effect. 14 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ascension St. Vincent Evansville launched the Dandelions ministry as part of Maternal Mental Health Month to help families grieving pregnancy loss by offering peer support through its Bereavement Team. The initiative will expand to include hospitals in Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky in the near future. 14 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mater Dei earned a share of the SIAC baseball championship by defeating Jasper 1-0 during the resumed game at Alvin C. Ruxer Field Tuesday, May 19. The contest, which began on April 28 and was paused due to weather, resumed in the bottom of the seventh and lasted eight minutes. Courier & Press

Annual Memorial Day Service
Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
