- ➤ The Vanderburgh County Fire Department will host a free weather safety fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at VCFD Station #1, 1540 E. Baseline Rd, offering station & truck tours, fire gear demonstrations, food and preparedness tips for all ages. 44 News

- ➤ Southwest Indiana Workforce is hosting a free job fair in Gibson County next month at Wood Memorial High School, where job seekers can meet local employers inside the gymnasium from 9 a.m. + 11 a.m. 14 News
- ➤ Local leaders discussed how our community has shaped trade in Western Europe today during a seminar that highlighted Indiana as the 7th largest exporter with exports valued at 7.5 billion dollars, and experts offered strategies to grow business. 14 News
- ➤ Job seekers in Southwest Indiana will meet local employers at a free job fair on Thursday, June 4 at Wood Memorial High School Gymnasium in Oakland City from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. CT, as announced by the SWIN Workforce Board in partnership with WorkOne. 44 News

- ➤ B.J. Watts, a veteran educator with EVSC, is appointed to the State Board of Education by Governor Mike Braun today. Known for pioneering a new Graduation Pathways model (which individualizes student graduation requirements), Watts brings 23 years of experience to support local schools. Courier & Press
- ➤ Oakland City University is suspending undergraduate programs for at least a year and laying off some employees starting May 31. The school is offering students options to transfer or pause studies while it works to resume undergrad courses in Fall 2027 (pending a patent sale). Courier & Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana Senator Todd Young recounted Princeton native Harold Dossett's WWII sacrifice on the Senate floor ahead of Memorial Day, reminding the community of his brave service. Dossett was among the 9,500 merchant mariners who died, and his name is honored on a monument outside the Gibson County Courthouse. 14 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Evansville Animal Care and Control said there were no space-related euthanizations since November 2025, with director Missy Mosby crediting partnerships with shelters, rescues and volunteers. The shelter will host an adoption event at Jacob's Pub on June 5 and a golf scramble at Helfrich Hills on June 12. 44 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Memorial High School boys volleyball, which started only two years ago, won the sectional championship with a four-set victory over Bloomington North last weekend. The team now prepares for the state tournament and builds on rapid growth (coach Quinlin noted the improved volleyball IQ and teamwork). Courier & Press
- ➤ Castle girls track won IHSAA Sectional 32 at Mt. Vernon on May 19, earning 165 points and setting a new 4x400 relay record at 4:01.26 — the team now prepares for regionals on Tuesday, May 26. Courier & Press

Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery (1800 St. George Road, Evansville) will hold its annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. The service, which is open to everyone, will be conducted by Charles Denby VFW Post #2953, who will lead the ceremony and read aloud the names of every veteran interred at Sunset over the past year.
