ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Trinity United Methodist Church in Downtown Evansville flooded twice last week after gravel and sediment filled a sinkhole on Riverside Drive, so crews from the Water and Sewer Utility and SERVPRO cleaned up the water while investigators look into the cause (cleanup costs could reach $32,000) and rising river levels delay repairs (the church’s bicentennial celebration may be affected).  Courier & Press
  • A hand sanitizer explosion at a home on North Saint Joseph Avenue on Tuesday, May 20 sent a woman with chemical burns to the hospital—police arrested a man for drug possession and neglect charges and removed a child while emergency crews gathered evidence from a burned tote and melted chemical container.  44 News

  • An explosion at a home along Saint Joseph Avenue in Vanderburgh County injured a woman with chemical burns, prompting evacuations and an ongoing investigation by deputies and fire crews as they prepare to file criminal charges.  44 News

  • The USI Screaming Eagles baseball team is set for postseason play today as they travel to the OVC Tournament in Marion. The team, seeded fifth with a 15 to 12 record, will face Little Rock at 9:00 a.m. and will meet Missouri State at 4:00 p.m. if they win — the contest is broadcast on 97.7 FM The Ref.  44 News
  • The Women's Hospital Classic Professional Tennis Tournament will return to Evansville this summer from July 21 to 27 at the Wesselman Park Tennis Center—upgraded to ITF W100 status with a $100,000 prize purse—and is set to attract top tennis talent for world-class matches.  44 News
