- ➤ Evansville Otters and CenterPoint Energy have announced CenterPoint First Responder Fridays, which offers 50 free tickets at every Otters home game in 2026 to honor local first responders. The promotion began on Era's Night at EVSC Historic Bosse Field and includes a ceremonial first pitch for one everyday hero. 44 News
- ➤ Evansville is hosting several Memorial Day events on May 25, including a 5K run at Garvin Park and memorial services at Sunset, Locust Hill, and Oak Hill Cemeteries, with rain plans for indoor ceremonies if needed. Courier & Press
- ➤ Last October, 11-year-old Elizabeth Chambers saved her great grandmother’s life in Newburgh when her blood sugar dropped too low and she kept calm until emergency crews arrived. The Castle Elementary student was honored at her 5th grade graduation with a Certificate of Excellence. 14 News

- ➤ EVSC has not set detailed guidelines to enforce the new statewide ban on cellphones and devices in schools effective July 1. Some teachers worry compliance will be difficult during passing periods and lunchtime, and the board is expected to review a policy on June 8. Courier & Press

- ➤ INDOT will close SR 56/61 in Petersburg from SR 57 to Illinois Street starting Monday, June 1 for pavement patching — local traffic can use the official detour route via SR 57, SR 356, SR 257, and SR 56, with work expected to last two weeks. 44 News
- ➤ City leaders signed a contract for a fire-based EMS service that guarantees job security for 47 full-time team members and pay for incoming EMTs and paramedics — the new service will launch in July. 44 News
