CRIME NEWS

  • Federal authorities sentenced Evansville residents Arcinial Montreal Watt to 20 years and Jazmynn Alaina Brown to 15 years in prison for their roles in a fentanyl trafficking operation that led to a 3-year-old’s death and an 18-month-old’s overdose when counterfeit pills spilled in their shared East Sycamore Street residence—officials said charges also included firearm possession and drug trafficking.  14 News
  • Evansville police arrested Jaylen Micah Drone, 21, Tuesday on felony murder and burglary charges tied to a May 13 Sweetser Avenue shooting—22-year-old Mekhi Anthony Maxwell was fatally shot by a resident during a botched burglary as 22-year-old Klifton Charles Carter remains at large.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville authorities said Larry Richmond Sr. will stand trial on December 15 for the murder of firefighter Robert Doerr after his request for a change of venue was denied.  44 News

  • VA Secretary Doug Collins visited Evansville and met with veterans and staff as part of his nationwide tour to address patient wait times and reduce disability backlogs. He urged veterans who had negative experiences to give the VA another try—marking a new step in improving service.  44 News
  • U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins visited the VA Health Care Center on Evansville’s east side to honor four employees and discuss long wait times and outdated policies—he met with Senator Jim Banks and Congressman Mark Messmer to address issues like scheduling delays and federal funding concerns.
