COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, PAAWS volunteers introduced North (a 6-month-old Feist Terrier mix) at the local 44News studio, offering a chance to adopt a loving pet. Donations support PAAWS’ lifesaving work.  44 News
  • Evansville Parks and Recreation began building Indiana’s largest splash pad at Igleheart Park on the north side — the project, funded by a parks bond approved in 2024, features ADA accessible play zones and a restroom facility and will open Labor Day weekend.  44 News
  • The Vanderburgh Humane Society took in 24 cats and kittens after a hoarding case following Memorial Day weekend; the shelter is asking residents to foster or donate (aiming to raise about $1,100 for medical expenses) as the animals receive ongoing care.  44 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shrinersfest kicked off yesterday in downtown Evansville with an opening ceremony by Mayor Stephanie Terry and ROTC at the start of the 2-day festival. The event features carnival rides, live music, food trucks and a beer garden, a bike show last night and a car show today at 10 a.m.  14 News
  • Movie Night in the Park kicked off the new season on Friday at Vann Park (a City partnership with local departments) by showing A Minecraft Movie, as locals brought lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks for the evening.  14 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana students 18 and younger can access free summer meals at nearly 1,000 sites through the Summer Food Service Program run by the Department of Education; families can call a hotline or use the USDA site finder to locate meal times and locations statewide.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Evansville’s Block by Block cleanup program moved to Jacobsville as over a hundred workers filled potholes, hauled away trash and restored properties (dismantling the 104th blighted home in front of Grace Baptist church) while the fire department installed new smoke alarms.  14 News
  • The 400 block of Main Street reopened Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m. with a new reinforced concrete driving lane while brick remains in the parking lane; the City of Evansville Engineering Department and Rivertown Construction completed the project.  44 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Five Evansville residents with spinal cord injuries are taking part in the new All Access Fitness program at 517 Fitness off Weinbach Avenue to build strength and endurance. The eight-week pilot program (funded by donations) is set to continue after the sessions conclude.  14 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Evansville’s historic old jail, built in 1890 and modernized over time, is now available for a nearly 50-year land lease priced near $1.5 million — Hahn Kiefer real estate says it offers a chance to convert the landmark into apartments or office space while preserving its rich history.  14 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Harrison’s boys track team excelled at the May 29 regional meet at Central, setting records and advancing competitors to state finals at North Central High School on June 6 (including record-breaking runs by Richard Hilaire and Micah Robling). Coach Adam Shoulders praised their resilience.  Courier & Press
  • Evansville Otters will host the Budweiser Clydesdales during their Flag Day game on June 14 at Historic Bosse Field. The horses will be seen from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a pregame parking lot display and a lap around the field.  44 News
