ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters in Evansville brought an early morning warehouse fire under control on Sunday when eight fire units responded to a commercial structure at the 100 block of North Kentucky Avenue—officials confirmed the fire was tapped out by 8 a.m.  14 News
  • A fire department command vehicle caught fire in its engine compartment inside the Administration building on Sunday when a Battalion Chief was retrieving it to help at a warehouse fire on North Kentucky Avenue—firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the building was not damaged.  WEHT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 34-year-old James Lawson after they found him walking away from a truck crash on Harmony Way near West Columbia Street at 10 p.m. Saturday—officers detected a strong smell of alcohol, recorded a breathalyzer result of .239, and found evidence linking him to a parked car hit by his truck, leading to charges for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.  14 News
  • Evansville police arrested James Lawson on May 31 for DUI and leaving the scene after his truck crashed on Harmony Way—his breath test showed a BAC of .239, nearly triple the legal limit.  44 News
  • Evansville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening near Baker and Negley Avenues during a fight in which a group left in two vehicles and one person was shot in the finger—officers later located and escorted one vehicle to a local hospital.  WEHT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hoosiers will have free fishing days on June 7 and 8 when they can fish without a license or trout/salmon stamp, said the Indiana Department of Natural Resources—an event that has run since 1995. Some communities will also host fishing derbies and beginner lessons while state rules still apply.  Courier & Press
  • Wesselman Woods will offer free access on the last weekend of each month in 2025—donations and the Eco-Access Initiative support the plan so visitors can explore four miles of trails, a nature playscape, a treehouse, and a bird sanctuary. Free access continues each month into December, giving locals a chance to enjoy nature all year.  44 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that two ramps connecting the Lloyd Expressway to University Parkway on the West Side will close June 3 until mid-July for pavement replacement—crews will close the northeast exit ramp from westbound lanes and the northwest entrance ramp while other ramps remain open.  14 News
