COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evansville Dustbowl will take place from June 16th through June 21st and will feature basketball events such as a free kids clinic, a skate jam, a myKOURT pickup game, and a championship game that will conclude with a high school all-star showcase, a balloon release in honor of Brianye’ Danielle Copeland, and an after party at Main Street Food & Beverage. Kourtland Martin and his committee will lead the revived event with support from local sponsors, the Boys & Girls Club, and the police department — a cherished tradition paused during the pandemic.  44 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Jayvinvontae (Jay) Carter, a 3-year-old Evansville boy known for his joyful nature, died June 7 after he accidentally picked up an unattended, loaded handgun hidden under a couch cushion in an apartment on Florence Street, and his father now faces felony charges including neglect of a dependent causing death.  Courier & Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 20-year-old Aydon Cassada after he threatened on social media to shoot up the Haynie’s Corner concert scheduled for tomorrow and he is held on an intimidation charge without bond (he was linked to a shooting on N Garvin Street in March).  14 News
  • The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Andrew Cooper on the 1500 block of Ravenswood Drive after a felony traffic stop, and officers seized around 250 doses of fentanyl, cash and drug items that indicate he may have manufactured and sold the drug; he is held without bond.  14 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction on Booneville-New Harmony road is causing frustration as closures on Petersburg road force detours that make travel hard for local drivers and businesses—County Engineer John Stoll said the road, being turned into a three-lane street with sidewalks, curbs and working sewers, will be complete by November to improve safety.  14 News
  • Starting around June 17, two busy exit ramps in Evansville from the westbound Lloyd Expressway to southbound U.S. 41 and back will close for about three weeks for road work. Traffic will shift to new lanes while INDOT works to improve U.S. 41 between Diamond Avenue and the Lloyd—drivers should plan for delays.  Courier & Press

  • Leaders at Deaconess urged men to take charge of their health in honor of Men’s Health Month + Doctor David Moore, a urologist at the clinic, said early checkups can help stop serious problems later.  14 News
